I just downloaded the newest version of JSJOBS was created by Chris
I just downloaded the newest free version but it is trying to get me to activate but I thought the main version is free? It won't turn on unless we activate it?

You need to download the newest version and check it because when I loaded it in one of my sites, it showed that it was offline so I went to turn it online and where you turn the jsjobs online, it has an activate link only so there was no way to turn it on without activating.
